Core Drilling

Asphalt Core Drilling

Craig Testing Labs specializes in the testing of bituminous concrete. Samples of the hardened asphalt are drilled in place and returned to our laboratory where we test for the material for thickness, air voids and composition compliance to DOT Requirements.

CTL’s on-site bituminous concrete laboratory is a fully comprehensive laboratory for testing bituminous concrete that includes three Gilson ignition ovens. Our field coring van is purpose-built and fitted exlusivley for field coring. The van has its own generator, water tank, traffic control and equipment to efficiently and safely perform all necessary field bituminous concrete coring.

CTL also performs bituminous concrete plant inspections, during production of the material, to insure the approved mix is shipped to the job site and the proper quality control testing is being performed. Once on-site, we can perform thickness, temperature, and density tests as a quality assurance measure.

Bituminous Concrete Testing Services including drilling cores and complete laboratory analysis (composition, thickness and voids), bituminous concrete mixture designs and plant and field Inspections.

Concrete Core Driling

Craig Testing Laboratories (CTL) can perform a full range of concrete core drilling and testing services.

Concrete core(s) can be extracted for in place compressive strength, thickness, chloride determination (to determine if rock salt is the cause for surface delamination) and petrographic examination to name a few.

Petrographic examination is the process of looking at slices of concrete through a microscope in which the Petrographer can determine the actual air content, composition and other properties of the in place concrete. Petrographic examination can also determine if there was a good finish placed on the concrete if there are surface defects such as delamination.

CTL can also drill holes from 1" to 10" diameter if needed for running conduit or other piping
